Ukrainian gymnast Oleg Verniaiev won the gold medal in the final exercises on parallel bars at the Olympic Games 2016 in Rio. This information was reported by the National Olympic Committee of Ukraine.

Ukrainian received the highest score – 16,041. Note that this is the first Ukrainian “gold” in the Olympic tournament in Rio de Janeiro.  The silver medal was obtained by American athlete Danelle Leyva, bronze – Russian citizen David Belyavsky.

The victory of Oleg Vernyaev in the Olympic gymnastics competition has allowed Ukraine to rise 18 lines upper in the medal list of Rio 2016.

Oleg Verniaiev is a Ukrainian gymnast, world champion, four-time European champion, two-time champion of the European Games, Olympic champion in Games in Rio de Janeiro, 2016. He was born in 1993 in Donetsk. In 2012, he won the silver medal at the European Championships and the Olympic Games in London, took 4th place in the team all-around, and 11th – in the individual. In 2013 he won a silver and two bronze medals of the Universiade, as well as the bronze medal in the European Championship. In 2014 he won the gold medal of the world championship, as well as a gold and two bronze medals at the European Championship.

In 2015 he became the first Ukrainian athlete to win the World Cup in gymnastics. At the Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro he brought the first gold for Ukraine, becoming the best in exercises on uneven bars.

We remind that some days earlier Oleg has also gained Silver medal in Rio-2016. And one of the biggest Ukrainian achievements was a victory of Elina Svitolina who has battled the world’s №1 Serena Williams.
